The novel revolves around the women characters who are strong in mind and try to construct a life of their own against all odds and hardships that fate had offered them. It is an undeniable fact that women are the most vulnerable strata of the society who are forced to undergo innumerable turmoils against their own will and wit. The novel is set against tumultuous backdrop of violence that happened in India during the Partition and post – Independent era. Her reputed novel Can You Hear the Nightbird Call? serves as the best example for gender victimization. She has authored four extraordinary novels and is regarded as one of the most prominent south – Asian Canadian writer.
